What is the Who's Who Legal 70?
Law Firm of the Year – France
Founded in Paris in 1920, Gide Loyrette Nouel has more than 700 lawyers in 24 offices throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and North America. The firm has 30 listings in this book and is the most prominent French law firm, with all but two of these based in the Paris office.
Four partners are featured from the firm’s “incredibly successful” global project finance practice group. Emmanuel Fontaine, who is also listed in our shipping and maritime chapter, is a highly regarded lawyer whose notable transactions include advising Monaco on the financing of a 15-hectare land extension. John Crothers has “an amazing knowledge of different international needs”. Francois Krotoff is an “expert” in energy project funding and in Morocco, Hicham Naciri also appears.
Gide performed well in our banking and commercial litigation chapters with three lawyers listed in each. Xavier de Kergommeaux specialises in cross-border securitisations for commercial credit, bank loans and leases and trade receivables and is very highly recommended. The “top tier practitioner” Eric Cartier-Millon is praised for his structured finance work and described as a “financial all-rounder”. Jean- Guillaume de Tocqueville D’Herouville is an “outstanding” bank regulatory lawyer who has advised the French government on complex matters. Carole Malinvaud is a “very good lawyer who is well liked” for both commercial litigation and arbitration. She is joined on the list by the “very well respected” Phillippe Nouel, and the “excellent” Pierre Raoul-Duval.
The firm is strong in M&A where Youssef Djehane, who also scores highly in our corporate governance chapter, is hailed as a “leader”. Gide features highly in our trademarks, corporate tax and real estate chapters, with two lawyers listed in each. Frédéric Nouel is a particularly “well known name”for real estate. Additional listings include the “highly recommended” Philippe Desprès in management, labour and employment, the “prominent” Oliver Puech in insolvency and restructuring and Brussels-based “excellent litigator” Olivier Prost in trade and customs.
With its lawyers listed in a further six practice areas, Gide’s pre-eminence on the French marketplace continues.
