McDermott Will & Emery was established in Chicago in 1934 as a tax practice, and has grown to become one of the world’s leading firms.

McDermott lawyers are listed 35 times in this year’s edition, with lawyers recognised in four countries and 14 practice areas.
The firm continues to be renowned for its corporate tax work, and nine names from McDermott feature on our list. Four are based in the US, with Lowell Yoder in Chicago described as “one of the deans of the bar” and Steven Hannes a “leading light” in DC. The firm is also strong in Europe, with Dirk Pohl one of the leading experts in Germany and head of the London tax department Peter Nias described as “superb” for transfer pricing and cross-border tax issues.
