What is the Who's Who Legal 70?

Law Firm of the Year – Argentina

Marval O'Farrell & Mairal in Who's Who Legal

Marval O’Farrell & Mairal is home to more than 300 professionals and boasts offices in Buenos Aires and Cordoba, as well as a presence in New York. Lawyers from the firm appear 42 times in this year’s edition, a significant increase on last year’s contingent, and this continuing success once again earns Marval O’Farrell & Mairal our award as the leading firm in Argentina.

The firm stands out as one of the leading banking firms in Latin America. Roberto Silva is “the first port of call” for many international financial institutions and is one of the most highly regarded individuals in the field worldwide. Alongside him, Santiago Carregal is well known as former vice president and assistant general counsel of JPMorgan in Buenos Aires. Carregal is also commended for his capital markets expertise, and appears in the project finance chapter alongside Roberto Silva and Luis Lucero, who joined the firm in early 2011 and offers clients the benefit of his “world class” projects and public procurement knowledge.

Roberto Silva appears for the third time in the M&A chapter, where the firm earns four listings in total. Héctor Mairal is a “legendary figure” whose “immense reputation” sees him appear in four chapters overall, his expertise in energy-related matters complementing his widely renowned corporate practice. The “very learned” Alfredo O’Farrell is also cited for his governance and transactional work, and he also appears as one of three nominees from the firm in the competition chapter. Miguel del Pino is “one of the finest competition lawyers in Argentina”, and Fernando Aranovich is also highly thought of.

The firm earns four nominees in the oil and gas chapter. The aforementioned Héctor Mairal is rated “the dean of energy lawyers”, and Francisco Macías advises clients on infrastructure, regulatory and contractual matters. The firm is also strong for IP work, with Iris Quadrio picked out for her trademark work alongside Miguel O’Farrell, and Martín Bensadon highly commended for his patent work. With a presence in 20 practice area chapters and more featured lawyers than any other firm in Argentina, Marval O’Farrell & Mairal is one of the leading firms in Latin America.
